My Approach to Helping

As a parent, it can be challenging to watch your child struggle with mental health concerns. At A Secure Base, Dr. Yanet Vanegas, an experienced psychologist in the treatment of children and adolescents, will help you navigate your child’s treatment with understanding and compassion. Dr. Vanegas sees the parent-child relationship as an essential ingredient to treatment success. Her treatment approach aims to strengthen your relationship with your child and to create a “secure base”— a relationship that meets their essential emotional needs and that they can turn to as a safe haven.

As a Harvard Medical School-McLean Hospital trained psychologist, Dr. Vanegas has garnered extensive experience treating children and adolescents with an array of mental disorders, with a specialty in OCD and eating disorders. She is also effective at treating depression, self-esteem concerns, behavioral problems, ADHD, and other disorders of childhood.

Throughout treatment, Dr. Vanegas focuses on building your child’s coping skills to allow them to manage strong emotions and to thrive. Dr. Vanegas can help your child learn self-regulation strategies, social-emotional concepts, executive functioning skills, and more. Dr. Vanegas welcomes the opportunity to assist you in your parenting journey.
