On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
Therapy is an investment in yourself. It is a way to take care of your mental well being. Many view therapy as a luxury, it is actually comparable to seeing any health professional, such as a medical doctor or dentist. Therapy handles the mental end of things which can cause some physical aliments, so coming to therapy may save you time and money going to various medical doctors. Therapy is also not forever; it is just until you reach your treatment goals, which can be as little as 8 sessions. I do not want to keep you in therapy forever, it is not ethical, and it makes you dependent on me.
My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'
This is my view on why I became a sex therapist. Sex is still a taboo topic in America, even though you see it everywhere from books, commercials, and billboards. Hell, you can look at porn, free porn, on your cell phone. Yet, it is not okay to talk about sexuality in families. We are all sexual beings from birth to death, it is apart of our genetic make-up. It is my belief it needs to be an integral part of mental health as well. There is no shame in a person's sexuality, or at least that is way I feel. I have found in several individuals I work with some of their core issues can be linked back to sex and sexuality with through shaming, abuse, or ignorance. I know several people who do not realize how their sexual system works or the proper "doctor's names" for their genitalia. This is not okay with me and I wanted to help individuals, couples, and families in this area, and to spread the word of sex and love positivity. It is okay to love who you love and to have healthy relationships. This is my passion and I receive fulfillment when people become who they want to be or as close as they can get. I mean we can't all be Deadpool or Pikachu.
