My Approach to Helping

We are relational beings and it is in sharing ourselves and really being really heard that we grow and change. I provide a safe non-judgemental place for you to share whats bothering you.
Everyone has their own individual path to follow. Sometimes in life we make mistakes (that's how we learn and grow) or painful things happen to us and we can't share them with those we are are closest too. Coming into therapy often gives you a different perspective and enables you to see possibilities that you that you could not see before.
People coming to therapy often feel discourageand stuck. They may have tried many things on their own but they have not gotten the results they had hoped for. My approach to therapy is eclectic. I am not tied to one theory. I use whatever I think will be of the most benefit to that particular person and the issue that they are dealing with.
I am Certified in EMDR therapy and that Therapy is brain based and can promote rapid change and healing.
I invite you to call me today. I will provide you with a free half hour phone consultation to determine whether or not I am a good fit for you. If I am not I will try to help you find someone who will be.

More Info About My Practice

I work primarily with individual adults. I like working with individuals who feel anxious and stuck. I treat PTSD, anxiety, phobia, fears, depression and the pain of loss. There is help and there is hope.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I am skilled at helping people change and grow. I am skilled at helping people overcome the pain of the past and live a more productive and happy lives. I helped a client with a fear of flying start traveling again. I ran into her a year later and she is still enjoying traveling! I helped a client with social phobia move out of her fear and go to college. I have helped Clients change the core negative beliefs they have about themselves and to see the possibilities in front of them. I have used E.M.D.R. to help therapist interns who failed state boards pass by Reprocessing their memories of the exams and changing their beliefs about themselves that they had picked up as a result of those failed attempts. Our beliefs are very powerful. Beliefs can enable a person to do great things or they can keep a person stuck and trapped, afraid to move forward.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy facilitates change and enables client to live a more fulfilling and productive life. A good therapist has worked on their own issues and continues to do so. I believe that a good therapist works as a catalyst in her clients life. She facilitates and enables the client make personal change. She provides the client with skills and tools to maintain the gains made in therapy. Good therapy is not a forever journey. If you are stuck working on the same stuff year after year then something is not happening. E.M.D.R. therapy produces rapid changes in the brain. There are other brain based therapies that are also very effective. When clients do decide to come back to treatment with E.M.D.R. it is almost always for new or different issues. Effective treatment with E.M.D.R. takes the pain away.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I love being a witness to the growth and change that occurs to clients in therapy. I am honored to be able to share their journey with them. I am truely blessed when the client tells me that I have made a difference in their lives and that they are glad they met me. Life is for living. It is a precious gift that each of us has been given and not meant to be wasted or spent being miserable.

Groups I Work With

Many of my clients are survivors of abuse as children & adults. Other have grief and loss pain. I do EMDR Therapy. It is evidence based and the second most researched therapy method after CBT. It was developed to treat PTSD. It can also work effectively with a variety of issues. The theory behind EMDR is that past pain and trauma have effected our personality and the quality of our relationships. The painful memories are improperly stored in our brains. EMDR moves the memories into proper storage and core negative beliefs are corrected. An example of such a negative belief would be the belief that one was responsible for being abused.
