My Approach to Helping

You probably started hearing judgmental messages very early on in childhood, and continue to receive similarly harsh messages on a daily basis in society, whether at work, home, among family, out in public, at movies, on television, or via social media. The combination of the old messages etched deep into your unconscious mind with the ones you hear every day can trap you in anxiety, depression, trauma, and repressed sexuality, and the work you and I do together will help make sense of these messages and how they affect your life and emotional world. Insight alone, however, won't necessarily lead to change, and therapy involves you setting intentions, and striving to accomplish very specific goals of growth, and freeing yourself from those narratives.

I honor your individuality, that your morals, values, goals, dreams, kinks, vices, and past are all your own, special, and okay. There is no place for judgment in the therapy room. You may be career-driven, family-driven, pleasure-driven, spiritual, or all of the above. You may want to be in a monogamous marriage your entire life, stay single, have another lover every day, trade sex for money, be completely asexual, or a host of other things. Again, my role isn't to judge, but to help you find strength in actualizing your truths, lowering your anxiety, and finding meaning. My only bias is toward mindfulness and self-compassion, and I can honor that even those tools might not be for everyone.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Stress. You may be experience stress as it relates to sex, relationships, work, affairs, or you may simply be pushing your stress away by participating in compulsive behaviors that while fun at first, might be starting to have some ramifications. Oftentimes you're probably just being too hard on yourself, and you can learn about how some of your thoughts and behaviors are perfectly "normal", if there is such a thing. Oftentimes, as long as nobody is getting hurt, what you're thinking, feeling or doing is fine, and as the inner critic quiets, the anxiety lifts...

My Role as a Therapist

My role is to assess the areas of life that are causing you the most amount of distress, to assess your own strengths for coping with those areas, to point them out to you, and to brainstorm on how to improve. I spend a lot of time working with, reading about and learning about various psychological issues, so my role is also sometimes as an educator, to let you know the ways our bodies and brains deal with anxiety, depression, anger, sex, etc. Finally, my role is to create a safe space to talk about all of these things.
