My Approach to Helping

As parents, from even before your child arrives you have your own hopes and dreams for their lives. But they enter the world with their own ideas, and it’s not like they come with a manual!

Maybe your child is experiencing unique challenges at school, following the rules, getting along with others, or keeping up with the fast pace of current curriculums. They may have learning or attentional difficulties, and you’re not sure how to help them through their challenges.

Or perhaps your family is dealing with major life stressors. Whether it's continuing to manage during the pandemic, working through a separation or divorce, or grieving the loss of a loved one, you want to make sure your child has the skills to help deal with the big feelings they’re experiencing as a result.

Maybe you're beginning to notice that your child is acting out, or is feeling anxious or depressed. Their worries seem so big for such a young person to carry, their anger or sadness overwhelming.

I help children from ages 5 to 21 and their families with all kinds of challenges. Children, even teens, learn best when they can play in the world they inhabit, and therapy can be a powerful space to provide children the opportunity to explore their thoughts, feelings, identify, and even their view of the world around them. Children don’t exist in the world all by themselves, and they rely on you to guide them as they grow into independent, successful, fulfilled adults. That’s why parent involvement is a key part of therapy with children. My job as a child therapist is to walk alongside you and your child on your journey to navigating life’s challenges and developing a richer, more satisfying life.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

Therapy is a unique experience where you and your child are expected to share some of your innermost thoughts and feelings with a new person. That is why it is so important to find a therapist who you and your child can trust. There are a lot of therapists out there, and not every one will have the right "feel" for you and your family. Our first few sessions will focus on determining whether I am the right fit for your child.
