My Approach to Helping

Hello! My birth certificate says my name is Rubith, but I go by Ruby. I graduated from California Baptist University with a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. I am so grateful to be able to honestly say, "I love what I do!!". What an adventurous journey my life has been so far (to say the least!). However, each day I hear or learn something new about a life experience that adds to the depth and richness of my perspective on life. I assure you that beyond the title of Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), I am just another human being.

I would like to take a moment and let you in on some interesting and fun facts about myself. I understand that self-disclosure is a matter of personal opinion for many providers in the "Therapist World," but... in order for people to feel comfortable enough with entrusting myself and my practice with their story, we should in turn share a bit about ourselves! So here are some interesting tidbits about what has contributed to who I am today.

-I was born and raised in southern California.

-I am the oldest of three; my sister also works in mental health and my brother is a Marine for the United States Marines.

-If you asked me what I was going to be when I was in elementary school, I would have said, "a lawyer."

-I am an aunt to two handsome boys! Both my sister and I are "boy moms." My mom is still hoping one of us will have a girl.

-I have two handsome boys; my oldest is 4 years old and my youngest is only 3 weeks old. They bring me joy every day.

-I have a loving husband who is a mechanical engineer.

-Lastly, I can’t live without coffee!

Reaching out when you need help is the most courageous step on your journey to whole-person healing. I work with children, tweens, teens, adults, and families from diverse backgrounds; together, we adventure through a variety of experiences, including anxiety, depression, grief, mood disorders, suicidal ideation, stress, and life changes. I believe every person needs someone to share their hardships with—someone that will walk beside them and help them hurdle the obstacles life throws their way.

As a therapist, I view the client as the expert on their experience and aim to provide support on their journey to whole-person healing. I take an eclectic approach to treatment. This outlook on treatment allows me to gain a better understanding of my clients and tailor treatment toward their strengths and needs. Change is facilitated as we develop a stronger understanding of ourselves. Personal transformation occurs as we grow our awareness of our thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and triggers while implementing new skills learned in therapy.
