North Star Treatment Services Clinical Program and Treatment Philosophy At North Star Treatment Services, we believe that recovery is a very personal journey, and each individual needs to identify goals that are specific to them and their needs. Since we know recovery is a long-term or lifelong process, it would make sense to work on each piece methodically as opposed to rushing through everything all at once. We utilize this methodology through our individualized treatment approach where each patient is equipped with coping skills to conquer their treatment goals or recovery challenges. We address this task through interactive and expressive group activities in which patients will not feel as though they are “falling through the cracks” or are just another number at a “treatment factory”. Each client does their initial assessment with a licensed clinician with years of experience in evaluating an individual’s personal needs in recovery and treatment. They are then placed in the appropriate level of care with our outpatient, or if they need more intensive treatment through inpatient or residential treatment, we work with a selection of inpatient and detox treatment centers that value their individual needs as much as we do. When recommended to outpatient treatment, the individual will be recommended to our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), or General Outpatient Program (GOP)levels of care. We identify that group therapy is the gold standard for treating substance use disorder, but many times there are personal or painful issues that need to process in a one-on-one setting; all patients are offered individual sessions in addition to their groups to work on more private challenges. We also offer individual family sessions, and also have a family program for those whose loved one is in treatment with us. Addiction is not just hard on the person struggling, but on the people who love them as well; we want to ensure that there is support for the entire family system while they are in treatment. Our approach to group therapy is to engage the patient in sessions and make them excited and engaged in their therapy. We make a concerted effort to design groups that are new and innovative and will keep the participants looking forward to their sessions. Our staff together has over 30 years of experience in the substance use disorder treatment field and we utilize our knowledge to provide a treatment experience that will not be redundant or recycled programming. We utilize traditional concepts of group therapy such as psychoeducational pieces, motivational interviewing, contingency management, processing groups, mindfulness and meditation, art therapy, and music therapy but with a new fresh, and modern approach. We do prioritize a 12-step approach to recovery, but also present to the participant alternate means of recovery and seeking support outside of treatment; this assists the patients in understanding that there is not a “one size fits all” approach to recovery, but different avenues to arrive at the same place of serenity. We also provide Medication-Assisted Treatment to assist those who have been recommended to that recovery path while inpatient or in detox so that they can continue their maintenance all in one place. In summary, our whole approach is about focusing on the individual and utilizing innovative approaches and a collaborative process to support the patient in reaching their next destination on their recovery journey.
