Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Women’s Sexual Health Concerns

Presented by Lori A. Brotto, PhD, R Psych on 06-21-2019 at 10 a.m. Pacific (1 p.m. Eastern) to 12 p.m. Pacific (3 p.m. Eastern)

The prevalence and major categories of women’s sexual dysfunctions is an often-overlooked area in mental health professions. Lori Brotto, PhD, R Psych will use Dr. Rosemary Basson’s circular sexual response cycle, which emphasizes the role of responsive sexual desire, to anchor her discussion of strategies for addressing these issues.

In this 2-hour continuing education web conference, Dr. Lori Brotto will discuss and demonstrate the application of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) in her program tailored to a population of women with low sexual desire. She will discuss how certain practices are customized to a population of women with genital pain and women with sexual abuse histories.

This web conference will be tailored for clinicians with some basic knowledge about mindfulness. Attendees of this web conference will not need to be experts in mindfulness, nor to have used it in their practice to find this presentation useful.

This intermediate instructional level web conference is designed to help clinicians:

  1. Explain the types and prevalence of sexual health concerns in women.
  2. Use the circular sexual response cycle as a tool for assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  3. Analyze the literature on evidence-based psychological approaches for female sexual dysfunction.
  4. Discuss the science of mindful sex.

Statement of program material's accuracy, utility, and risks: The contents of this program are based primarily on publications from the speaker, Dr. Lori Brotto as well as the available published literature on women’s sexual response.
