My Approach to Helping

Every relationship is unique. The therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in counseling. You have the opportunity to form a trusting, respectful relationship, supporting our work together. The initial goal is to find a clear vision for change leading to a more balanced, harmonious life. Whether you are experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship issues, problems with self-esteem or challenging life transitions, we will work collaboratively to find solutions. Your voice will be heard and valued. I would be honored to accompany you on this journey.

More Info About My Practice

I am a Distance Certified Counselor and work with many clients via phone and teleconferencing. This way of work is valuable for people living with chronic illness and disability, those whose geography require working remotely and those whose life demands make it impossible to accommodate one more appointment. Studies have shown that counseling via phone can be just as successful as face to face sessions. The majority of my work is done at a distance.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

My first experience in counseling was harmful. My counselor was unethical and did not respect the boundaries of a therapeutic relationship. I knew this was inappropriate, but I was young and inexperienced. I left counseling. I did not seek counseling again until I was sure I could do my homework and choose wisely. I knew the importance of trust and respect and ?goodness of fit?. My next counselor fit the bill and my husband and I had a very powerful and successful experience. These experiences have taught me the importance of the client therapist relationship.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

The core of counseling is the client therapist alliance. The ingredients necessary are respect, honesty and chemistry. With these factors present the client and therapist form a trusting relationship. Collaboration is the key to success.
