My Approach to Helping
My name is Maria. I am a bilingual Spanish and English Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have been practicing for over 8 years in a County outpatient mental health clinic that services a multi-cultural and diverse population. My experience includes but not limited to conducting therapy to Pregnant and postpartum women, adults, older mature adults, client’s suffering from emotional and crisis situations, mood conditions, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, psychosis, substance abuse, domestic violence, trauma’s, post-traumatic stress disorder, fear, tragedy, paranoia, adoption, grief, and loss. My approach begins with a trusting alliance by providing foundational theories of humanism by providing empathy, kindness, and unconditional positive regard. I strive to provide extensive and compassionate care. I will interact with a non-judgmental, caring, and kind approach needed to gain my client’s trust. I collaborate with my clients to create a treatment plan with attainable and necessary goals that will help them find their life purpose and to reach their highest potential. Theories I use, including but are not limited to authenticity as well as existential psychology, believe that people’s lives have a purpose, value, and meaning. I will approach emotional crises and interventions with compassion. This includes using solution-focused, cognitive behavior therapy, client-centered, and dialectical behavioral therapy with the goal of assisting clients to practice healthy coping skills needed to reduce their symptoms and feel better.
