My Approach to Helping
I treat a number of mental health concerns, and provide an open space for individuals, families, and couples. I provide services to two main groups: children under the age of 10 and individuals, couples, and families in the LGBTQQIA+ community. I have experience and training working with children under the age of 10 with an array of presenting concerns such as trauma, divorce, anxiety, social skills, physical complaints, foster care, adoption, and many more. As a member of the LGBTQQIA+ community, I am passionate about working with this community. I strive to provide competent and affirming therapy and have been honored to work with individuals, couples, and families in this community.
I am passionate about helping you work through anxieties, life transitions, depression, self-esteem, and many other life concerns. For children ages 2-10, I offer experiential play therapy to help them process their emotions and trauma. Families often come to me for help with a child displaying challenging behaviors. Play is the language of children, so this model helps them process and express themselves in a naturally developmentally-appropriate way. With LGBTQQIA+ adolescents and adults, I employ a number of different types of therapy, including art therapy, DBT, narrative therapy, and solution-focused therapy as appropriate for each client. I tend to fit my therapeutic style to your needs rather than expecting that everyone will benefit from a specific technique.
I also provide animal-assisted therapy with a toy Australian Shepherd named Widget. I find Widget is particularly helpful in teaching boundaries and talking through trauma.
Finding a therapist who can understand and relate to your concerns is an essential part of healing. I would be honored to join you on your journey of self-exploration and growth.
