My Approach to Helping
My intention is for our time together to have value to you and for you to notice a difference in yourself not only over time, but immediately as well. I value mental health care that is more than symptom reduction. My emphasis is on human flourishing and helping you create a life with meaning. Whether you are struggling with experiences of trauma or adversity, stress, anxiety, depression or something else, there are tangible and holistic ways to feel better.
Many of our responses occur automatically without the benefit of our conscious awareness. In fact, neurocognitive studies have measured over 90% of our brain is working and operating out of our conscious awareness, in the unconscious or subconscious. This includes behaviors, emotional responses, triggers etc. This is often times why you may have an emotional reaction, an anxiety attack, a fearful response even when you try not to. Often times, logically reasoning through your behaviors and feelings may not work or only works in the short term. Think of an iceberg. The conscious mind is what you observe and are aware of on the surface, but the iceberg can be miles below the ocean surface. I believe in not only giving you tools to cope, but also helping you relieve the root causes of your distress where it might be stored at that deeper level of your mind.
