My Approach to Helping

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas, and I specialize in providing individual, couples, and mental health support group services with specific specializations in anxiety, PTSD, CBT, mindfulness, biofeedback and neurofeedback, mental health evaluations, substance use, and family or romantic relationships. I offer both one-off evaluations (for letter writing or other requests) as well as continuous treatment through counseling.

For a little about me, I am a United States Marine Corps veteran of a foreign war (specifically Operation Iraqi Freedom). I have studied mental health and psychology since 2009. Throughout my academic career, I have earned a Bachelor’s of Arts from the University of Texas at San Antonio (with Honors and a Minor in Business Administration) and a Master’s of Arts in Clinical Psychology from University of Central Florida. I have gained experience with most forms of mental health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment in inpatient, outpatient, and highly specialized settings (like neuropsychological assessment, neurotherapy, biofeedback, career counseling, social work, and high-performance training).

For a little about my approach to therapy, I tend towards the Boulder Model (a scientist-practitioner). I prefer empirically-based interventions which are client-centered, solution-focused, and based in psychology and neurology. What this means for you is that I balance the art and science of psychotherapy to meet you where you are, to work with your brain and functioning, and create personalized interventions based upon your desires, wants, and needs as a holistic person. I pull from many styles and interventions, and I prefer those based in neurology or neuropsychology, to help my clients improve their brain-body connection. I always prefer to work with my clients and work with the brain rather than against them!

For a little about my style in session, I am open, straightforward, and honest. I define myself by the USMC values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment. I prefer to act as a mentor, guide, teacher, or instructor to my clients. I bring myself and my history into session, to help foster courage and hope. This also helps me be a “normal person” rather than “a guy in a button up and jacket.” I have lived a difficult and diverse life, I have been to war, I have had to face many dangers to my life and livelihood, and I have suffered many tragedies. I have survived all of these through my own personal understanding of coping, physical, mental, spiritual, and brain health. I hope to share this understanding, knowledge, and wisdom with you to help you help, heal, or improve yourself!

For a little about my ideal client, I have been successful in the past with all manner of clients through many different settings – male, female, transgender, heterosexual, LGBTQ+, in inpatient, outpatient, technician, assessment, or even consulting settings. I also really enjoy working with teens and adolescents, since early brain-based interventions help everyone succeed even more in their lifetime. I find that my personality and style seem to fit best with clients who feel they are trapped in a negative routine, have no one with which to talk, or no way out of the situation from which they suffer. I have been in many hard places in my life, and my experience seems to help my clients excel through the school of hard knocks. Due to my background and directness, I tend to be more successful with male clients who are veterans or work in emergency or healthcare services (police, firefighters, EMS, nursing, etc).

More Info About My Practice

For a little about my work experience and private practice, I began my career as a mental health professional in 2014, and I earned full licensure in March of 2020. Since being fully licensed, I have created my own private practice with the goal of providing mental health treatment with the least barriers to entry. I run an online practice, and I purposefully work over the weekend. I created this structure to help my clients succeed in their livelihood, work-life balance, and to remove common difficulties with counseling (going to an office, waiting for an appointment in person, taking time off of work or school, getting dressed up for sessions, and difficulty with treatment due to COVID restrictions). In my practice, you can have a session in your house in your pajamas while eating a snack and cuddling with your pet, if that is what works for you!

For a little about the services I provide, I try to provide as holistic an experience as possible. I have online therapy sessions 4 days a week, offer between-session communication in the form of HIPPA secure and encrypted email, provide many free online reading and resources, facilitate a free online mental health support group (Twitch.tv), run a free online mental health education and training channel (YouTube.com), and provide career coaching and counseling (including resume creation, cover letter writing, job search assistance, job interview training, and business or employee treatment consulting). Lastly, I enjoy mental health diagnostics, assessments, and accommodation letter writing. You can choose from as many of these services as fit your wants and needs :D

For a little about my schedule, I provide online individual or joint sessions from Friday through Mondays, 12 PM – 8 PM. I take an hour for lunch each day, generally around 3 PM. My standard rate is $100 USD per billable hour, and I do offer sliding scale services with a floor rate of $60 USD per billable hour.
