My Approach to Helping

If and when you want to tell your story, I am here to listen.
The decision to try therapy could mean unfamiliar grounds for some, while for others it could be a relief.
There is always hope for the future.

I want to know your story. Sessions in my practice are anchored in your narrative and world view. The focus, in the beginning, is to co-create a dedicated space that is comfortable and feels safe for you. Sessions progress at your pace while bringing attention to any road-blocks.

I believe that every person has the capacity to observe, reflect and learn new ways of coping with distress. My approach to therapy stems from systems and attachment theories, where you look at early life experiences, attachment styles and how members of your family interact with each other.

Every person is a product of their current context and early life experience. In sessions, we explore how your context has played a part in learned habits while re-examining its relevance for you today. Couples and families here have an opportunity to learn new skills in managing emotions and conflicts as each member begin to explore their own doubts and fears.

Paying attention to emotions is central to our process. Naming and describing them could be an incredibly powerful tool. We recognise the positive aspects of the client\'s life while creating a safe space to look into and manage uncomfortable feelings.

More Info About My Practice

What to Expect:
Therapists are trained to make you feel easy and guide you into the process of therapy. Nonetheless, choosing a comfortable therapist to start your journey with is very important.

The initial meeting would be an assessment session to briefly understand your background and the concern you have. It is also an opportunity to see if the fit feels comfortable. There is never an obligation to continue with sessions and is entirely up to how comfortable you feel.

During sessions, we will explore your story, your world view, emotions, childhood experiences, family dynamics and so on. We will look at how these factors have influenced you as a person and are relevant to you now.

When you feel ready to end sessions we schedule an end-date and begin to work towards it. We would revisit some of the places that were meaningful to you. After the sessions are over, we could choose to meet for a follow-up session usually 3-6months later, if we decide.

Training And Credentials:
I am a Dubai licensed counselling psychologist who works with families, couples and individuals. I am passionate about patterns of communication, couple's attachment styles and family dynamics. A big part of my practice is advocating for the social inclusion and rehabilitation of patients experiencing clinical symptoms.

My approach to therapy focuses on self-reflection, exploration, and building new narratives about past experiences. A problem is understood in the context of culture, circumstances, and relationships and is addressed using evidence-based methods. The primary focus in session is to encourage curiosity about patterns in one's own life and will progress at the pace of the client.

I received my training in Systemic Psychotherapy from King's College, London. This approach allows me to pay attention to a client's family of origin and early experiences. I have an M.Sc in Counselling Psychology and Bachelors in Psychology and Media Studies. I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Women's Health and Sexuality. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy(CBT) and Cognitive Analytical Therapy(CAT).

My training with the early intervention services at the NHS, with Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital, Dubai and Healthcare Global Hospitals, Bangalore, brings me closer to patients and families battling mental health symptoms and cancer.
I am a member of the Emirates Medical Association and Emirates Society for Mental Health.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

Therapy is a brilliant science and a brilliant art. I learn new aspects about it every day.
Being a therapist reminds me of the importance of very simple values that hold great importance.
These two factors fuel my passion for wanting to understand human behaviour and relationships.
Doing anything else wouldn't be the same.
