My Approach to Helping

Do you ever feel trapped by the day’s tasks and doubt your ability to make it through them? Do you feel like you’re just going through the motions while being weighed down in the process?

Perhaps you find yourself saying, “I’m tired” a lot as an excuse for your low mood or become quiet because you don’t have the energy to talk. Have you been told to “snap out of it” or that depression is an excuse or something one “chooses” to get? Maybe you find yourself using your phone excessively because – let’s face it – sometimes it’s easier to hide our struggles online.

Depression isn’t always at 3am when you’re alone with your thoughts. Sometimes it’s at 3pm when you’re surrounded by friends in the middle of laughing, or keeping conversations at “surface level” because you’re scared anything deeper will reveal how you really feel.

Anxiety isn’t always just feeling nervous. Sometimes it’s not trusting yourself and your surroundings – feeling completely out of control; overthinking everything (the past, a recent conversation, the future, etc.); or having the “logical” side of your brain tied up and having your “emotional” side take over and run free, destroying everything.

Depression and anxiety aren’t always how they look in the media. They are often invisible, yet real illnesses with symptoms that can cause significant disruption to one’s day-to-day living. They are unpredictable and can impact EVERYthing.

You are not alone.

You are worthy.

If you are seeking to be seen, heard, and valued all for being uniquely you – you are in the right place! At The Tattooed Therapist, you are encouraged to show up as you are, without judgement. I believe that when we authentically connect to ourselves, we connect to that which is beyond ourselves.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I work with individuals and couples struggling with the emotional roller coaster that is depression and anxiety and specialize in the treatment of Anxiety, Bipolar I, and II and various mood disorders.

My Role as a Therapist

I approach psychotherapy as a collaboration, a special kind of teamwork in which we work together in a way that transforms pain and distress into healing and growth. The process becomes a journey through the world of the client, in which I provide guidance to navigate through difficult areas that, when explored together, can be integrated into the whole picture of one's life. I pay close attention to verbal and non-verbal communication between clients and myself, and we talk openly about our shared understandings as well as our misunderstandings. I offer psychological and psycho-social education that addresses each client?s particular needs and goals. Rather than give specific solutions or advice, the psychotherapeutic approach I engage is to assist individuals to think and reflect so as to find their own answers. In this process I offer guidelines and support even as we explore the unknown. Ready to learn more?

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

The therapy relationship can be a powerful source of change: we build a container where I provide thoughtful presence, empathy, and serious inquiry. Together we develop trust, delve into uncharted territory, explore carefully, face obstacles, and gain new understanding of oneself and one?s world. We unravel knots and knit new fabric. It?s hard work, and it?s worth it. I believe that this special relationship can change people profoundly; they can learn how to build greater emotional connection with self and others and tap into deeper meaning. At its best, psychotherapy leads to a fuller integration of mind, body, and emotions, and strengthens our resourceful engagement in life.
