My Approach to Helping

Struggles in coping with mental health issues, health issues, emotional challenges due to daily demands, workplace stress, grief and loss, relationship troubles and other issues can often become debilitating. Being a mental health practitioner does not prevent me from experiencing burnout due to the demands of life. However, my experience with people has taught me the importance of reaching out for help, reframing the way we look at life challenges and directing our focus on aspects of life that are under our control as there are always steps we can take to improve our state of mind despite the situation we are in.

More Info About My Practice

My journey in people-helping started through providing mental health services to various populations in which some of them are highly sensitive communities such as LGBTQ+, HIV reactive clients, refugees and survivors of human trafficking. I have worked with adults, children and adolescents in areas such as family relations, domestic violence, stress, trauma, self-harming, anxiety, depression, anger management and personal growth.

People approach me to work with them in areas related but not limited to stress management, relationship management, anger management, depression, anxiety, finding a direction in life and parenting.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Therapeutic work is like peeling the layers of an onion. As we peel one layer and then the next, we foster independence, freedom & self-discovery; each time we strip off one layer, we work towards returning to positive wellbeing.

According to your needs, several approaches to therapy could be utilised to help you work through the issues that brought you through my door. A safe space will be provided to you to talk openly about the issues that are keeping you from feeling your best, and together we will work through these issues by:
- making sense of your emotions
- gaining new perspectives
- developing healthier and effective habits
- equipping new skills to manage daily challenges in a more adaptive way
- building the life that you want to live
- staying connected with people who are important to you

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

The first session is 60-90 minutes with psychological assessments. Subsequent sessions are usually 60 minutes each.

Based on the issues that brought you through my door, therapy will take between 4-12 sessions varying between different clients. In the sessions, we will collaboratively work on goal setting, identifying and resolving the most pressing issues for symptoms relief, developing problem solving skills, managing emotional distress and relapse prevention.
