My Approach to Helping
Starting therapy or returning to therapy can be one of the most difficult, yet positive and rewarding decisions you make in your life. In therapy I strive to offer a safe space to gain increased self-awareness and to examine what may have you feeling stuck and overwhelmed. Through the process of therapy, you can expect to shift your current way of doing things, change life-patterns and overcome barriers that keep getting in your way. It takes courage to begin therapy, but once you make the decision, it will likely enhance your sense of self, your relationships, and your quality of life.
It is important to make an informed therapy decision which includes finding the right counselor. I approach my clients with respect, an open-mind, and the desire to fully understand their life experiences. I value diversity and the many factors that impact how we define ourselves. I strive to create a therapeutic connection based on trust, safety, and genuine empathy. My therapy approach is to work collaboratively with clients and to clarify the issue/issues they wish to address. A primary therapy focus is to generate solutions and enhance coping skills to effectively manage your life.
I offer individual counseling, couples counseling, and group counseling. I enjoy working with a wide range of issues and concerns. I specialize and have particular interest in working with relationship concerns, personal growth and exploration, depression, self-esteem, life transitions, anxiety reduction and social phobia, women's issues, body image concerns, career issues, identity development, GLBTQ issues, grief and loss, and trauma recovery.
