My Approach to Helping
Cheryl Hejnal, LSW, is a licensed social worker whose clinical experience with
individual therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, safety planning, and family
counseling has provided her with the knowledge and expertise to work with a wide
range of ages and diagnoses. Specifically, Cheryl specializes in the treatment of
ADHD, substance use disorders, Eating disorders,PTSD, chronic illness, anxiety, depression, grief,
and LGBTQ+ experiences. Understanding there is no one-size-fits-all solution, she
provides a highly individualized therapeutic approach that is heart-centered,
friendly and empowering.
Cheryl utilizes multiple evidence-based practices including motivational
interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, brief
intervention therapy, and grief therapy, which she uses to tailor her treatment
interventions to ensure individualized care. In addition, she believes in providing
case management services through helping her clients to access other outside tools
and resources, thus optimally supporting their multidimensional needs. Ultimately,
Cheryl works to empower each client into developing and applying their own self-
care practices, recovery paths, and aftercare plans, so that they are an active
participant in reducing the negative mental health symptoms that get in the way of
they're everyday life and creating a fulfilling life that supports their highest values. Cheryl is a HAES affirming therapist and will honor the value of body positivity.
Cheryl currently offers individual and family therapy along with several groups for
both adolescents and adults. She identifies as an LGBTQ+ ally and supports
diversity, inclusion, and social justice matters in both her professional and personal
life. She currently offers telehealth services only, but hopes to provide in-person
services when the office opens in late May early June.
