My Approach to Helping

We all have within us the capacity to be our best selves and live fulfilling lives. We also carry with us our unique and complex combination of genetics, upbringing, and significant life experiences which impact how we interact with ourselves, others, and the world around us. Sometimes, even in our best efforts to get our needs met, attain happiness, and create satisfying connections with others, we find ourselves engaging in ineffective and counterproductive behaviors, leaving us feeling confused, stuck, frustrated, alone, and uncertain about the reasons for our behavior or how to make necessary changes. There is hope.

A great deal of therapy is about learning how to understand yourself and how you operate in the world, exploring new ideas and new ways of seeing things, and feeling more confident in creating more fulfilling life experiences. This approach to therapy typically involves: increased self-awareness about your thoughts, feelings, and patterns of behavior and their underlying motivations; more comfort and confidence in your interpersonal relationship skills; transforming self-doubt and self-criticism into self-acceptance and self-confidence; improved communication skills; increased empathy and compassion for yourself and others; more constructive responses to stress and anxiety; more effective ways of managing conflict; increased ability to identify and optimize your existing strengths; more adaptive ways of coping with difficult life experiences and emotions; and a greater sense of inner strength and resiliency.

It takes a great deal of strength and courage to reach out and be willing to look deeply at yourself and expose yourself to new ideas and behaviors. I believe it is my responsibility to meet your bravery with the compassion, guidance, knowledge, and support you need in order to attain a greater sense self-knowledge, personal growth, and meaningful long lasting change.
