My Approach to Helping

Traumatic memory appears without warning. It stops you in your tracks, invades, and overwhelms. In a moment’s notice, your body and brain feel hijacked. No matter what you try and bury it under work, food, relationships – it’s still there. You may dissociate or maybe you’re watching it happen across the room, in your child’s face. You never asked for this, but, then again, neither did they. Whether you are seeking support for yourself, your family, or the child in your life, I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and walk through this with you.

As an expert and percipient witness, I give minor clients a voice in the courtroom. I advocate fiercely for the best interest of your child and family. Any involvement in family or dependency court can be scary, which is why I provide clinically-driven strategies to help navigate challenges where you need it most; in the living room or the courtroom.

As an EMDR-certified trauma therapist and EMDRIA Approved Consultant, I help you explore your most vulnerable parts, unlock past trauma and anchor you through the storm. I empower my 0-5 clients to express big feelings and reestablish trust. My expertise allows me to provide you with the support and skills that not only create change but guide you to reconnect, regain control and heal.

Groups I Work With

Bren will provide you with a safe, calm, and containing space where you can feel supported as you explore, together, the way in which your life experiences may influence the person you have become and shape the choices you make. Bren will help you gain greater insight and develop tools, improve communication, strengthen your relationships, increase resilience, and heal painful wounds, thereby allowing you to thrive. In conjunction with her psychodynamic approach, she is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), which allows clients to quickly process their trauma and surpass their former level of functioning. Additionally, Bren has trained at the master level in Attachment-Focused EMDR (AF-EMDR) and is an Approved Consultant by the EMDR International Association.

In addition to her specialty in trauma, Bren specializes in working with individuals that are considering or are in the process of undergoing bariatric weight loss surgery. Bren provides pre-surgical psychological assessments required for surgery approval. Bren works with her clients to ensure they are informed and prepared for the challenges ahead and are well equipped to cope effectively with any potential obstacles to their success. Having undergone the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure herself, Bren has a personal connection to this work. She has a unique understanding of the personal and psychological impact of weight loss surgery on an individual, as well as the impact on his or her family.

Bren received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from UCLA. She also has a Master’s in Arts degree in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Conflict-Related Trauma and a second specialization in Child Studies from Antioch University, Los Angeles.
Her extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and families has fueled her passion for working with individuals who have experienced some form of psychological trauma.

Bren’s dedication to advocacy work and commitment to providing trauma-informed care has led Bren to frequently serve as an expert witness in court. Further, Bren has experience providing expert testimony in high-profile cases, that, by their very nature, require a level of understanding of the judicial system that is unique to the profession of psychotherapy. In addition to her trauma work, Bren has more than 15 years of experience working with individuals that have experienced some form of intimate partner violence. Bren is a leading provider in trauma treatment and in the treatment of children and families.
