My Approach to Helping
My goal is to create a safe environment where you will be able to talk about what brings you to counseling, explore its meaning, discover solutions and new ways of solving the problem or problem situation. Once we have a grasp on the problem and its history; sometimes uncovered in the first session, we begin to work at solutions or ways you can heal from the problem or problem situation. How we begin to do this involves a conversation focused on an imagination of what your life would be like if this problem or problem situation were to be fixed. My responsibility is to understand where you are and create a safe environment so that we can work collaboratively to help you get the change you desire. Our work usually involves new approaches to solving the old problem. In addition to our conversations your work may involve journaling, self-hypnosis, guided imagery, drawing or artwork, stress management and mindfullness techniques, exercise and dream work. By looking at the problem or problem situation differently, you will naturally respond and relate differently. This change in problem perception is the beginning of feeling a stronger sense of self and viewing greater possibility for the changes you desire.
