When Thoughts Attack and Feelings Overwhelm: Working with the Healing Power of Awareness

Presented by Richard Moss, MD on 10-28-2011 at 9 a.m. Pacific to 10:30 a.m. Pacific (1:30 p.m. Eastern)

This web conference is an introduction to the model and process Dr. Richard Moss developed, which he calls The Mandala of Being™. This model is an awareness approach to consciousness growth that is a powerful adjunct to psychotherapy. It provides a methodology for identifying and deconstructing subconscious beliefs that underlie areas of habitual stress, reactivity, and behavioral limitation. The model and process clearly illustrates that there are four places the egoic mind can go when leaving present-moment awareness and delineates the psychological and emotional consequences of each direction. By precisely understanding how ego refuses the present, the work provides a pathway for returning and establishing a healthy connection to self, ushering us into a vaster, more liberating field of awareness in which we experience feelings of aliveness, connection, creativity, and flow.

In this web conference, participants will engage in a number of meditative practices to experience a state of relaxed readiness and deeper intuition of this quality of awareness. Participants will learn the difference between emotions (the combination of cognitive thoughts and physiological arousal) and feelings (direct sensate apprehension of the world), as well as how to work more effectively with both. Participants will be invited to discover how the power of presence can help them become more fully connected with themselves and the people they treat; expand their capacity for genuine empathy and compassion; and experience more richness, gratitude, and fulfillment in their lives and relationships.

This web conference is designed to help clinicians:

  1. Utilize a powerful model and process for coaching clients to recognize and free themselves from subconscious beliefs—their "stories"—and awaken to their essential consciousness;
  2. Practice achieving a balanced mind through focused, spacious attention and inhabit the body with relaxed alertness, thereby accessing and conveying expansive energy;
  3. Identify the four key skills for guiding clients through difficult feelings;
  4. Explain the field of energetic rapport and how to guide from presence.

Meet the Presenter

Richard Moss, MD

Richard Moss, MD

Richard Moss, MD, is recognized internationally as a visionary teacher, thinker, and author of books on transformation, self-healing, and the practice/art of living consciously. Richard left the practice of medicine nearly 30 years ago after a life-changing realization. Thereafter, he wanted to dedicate his life to helping other people realize that they are multidimensional in nature and help them achieve mastery of themselves. His pragmatic philosophy is that work on consciousness must alleviate human suffering as well as address the underlying causes of why/how people create conflict in their world and in themselves.

Richard is the author of seven books: The Second Miracle: Intimacy, Spirituality, and Conscious Relationships (1995); The Black Butterfly: An Invitation to Radical Aliveness (1986); How Shall I Live (1985); The I That is We (1981) (all published by Celestial Arts); Words That Shine Both Ways (self-published in 1997); and The Mandala of Being: Discovering the Power of Awareness (published by New World Library, 2007). Published in February 2011 by Hay House, Richard’s newest book is Inside-Out Healing: Transforming Your Life Through the Power of Presence. Richard’s books have been translated into many languages, including French, Spanish, German, Russian, Romanian, Danish, and Portuguese, and over 200,000 copies of his works have been sold worldwide.

Over the past thirty years, Richard has shared his teachings in North and South America, Australia, and Europe. In addition, Richard has been featured in print publications worldwide. He has also been a presenter at various conferences and institutions, including Harvard University, UCLA, John F. Kennedy University, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, Georgetown University, University of Chicago Medical School, and more.

Richard’s teachings connect science, energy medicine, depth psychology, and also spiritual/awareness practices. The heart of Richard’s work can be found in his experiential workshops and retreats, where he invites participants to take part in processes in which they make a deep connection to their own selves and also learn to become their own teacher. Participants of these events learn to experience the freedom of living with no fear of their own feelings.

Richard is profoundly grateful to the many influences received through his travels and readings, to his family, and to several mentors, most especially William Brugh Joy and Franklin Merrill-Wolff. Most of all, he has grown through the many people who have come to work with him. Richard resides in Ojai, CA and is the father of three adult step-children.
