My Approach to Helping

Does this sound familiar? "Sometimes I really know who I am and where I'm headed in life. I can find my heart and intuition and I feel like I'm on the right path. Other times, I feel lost, confused and small. During those moments, I can give up my own needs and voice, to follow what other people think is best. Even though I don't want to, I can loose track of myself and instead focus on making sure everyone else is ok. I have learned some ways to come back to myself, but they don't seem to change the fact that I keep ending up here. I don't understand why I find myself in situations and relationships that feel the same over and over again. Sometimes I think it's because there's something wrong with me."

The truth is there is nothing wrong with you, underneath these repeating patterns and beliefs you are worthy and whole. In fact, all of you is welcome in therapy, even the parts of you that you find frustrating and difficult. Our work will begin to gently shake up who you thought we were by helping you get to know the wisdom that drives your habitual way of being in the world. By connecting with your body and heart, we can bring acceptance and compassion to the underlying dynamics that keep you stuck in the same patterns. Through new experiences, we will update your old beliefs and ways of being in the world that no longer serve you. As you come to know and love yourself on a deeper level, you'll feel more freedom to be yourself, build more authentic relationships and find more joy in your daily life.

More Info About My Practice

Please call or email me to set up a free 30 minute consultation. Instead of traditional talk therapy, I offer experiential therapy that helps rewire the nervous system and increase the range of possibilities for how you show up in the world. We'll draw on your strengths, unique life experience and our moment by moment interactions to help you notice, explore and change underlying patterns through nature, creativity, Hakomi body-centered therapy and EMDR trauma-resolution therapy.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Therapy helps you unearth your own intrinsic wisdom and wholeness. Over the course of a lifetime, difficult experiences can get stuck in your mind and body, and lead to habitual reactions. In therapy, these old experiences can be healed and you can find new fresh creative responses to life. By mindfully experimenting with new ways of being in relationship with yourself, others, and the world you can change old habits that no longer serve you. This creates a renewed sense of belonging, purpose and aliveness.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

Working with painful emotions requires two kinds of skills. One is learning how to get out of difficult emotional places so that you don't find yourself stuck and overwhelmed by them. I can help you experiment with different kinds of mindfulness, resourcing, grounding and breathing exercises so that you have a toolbox of skills within your own body.

On the other hand, symptoms give us important messages and painful emotions have their own wisdom. So you'll also develop the ability to listen to them and hear what they are teaching you about your healing. I can help you to slow down and listen to your body and emotions. Over time, this can reduce the intensity and frequency of painful feelings. Building relationships with these parts of us that we find difficult, creates a deeper level of self-knowledge and a sense of inner comfort and support.
