My Approach to Helping

I am a warm and direct psychologist. I have worked in many different contexts including internationally, and I love helping diverse people thrive. I work with anxiety, depression, relocation, eating disorders, difficult life events and relationships. I am an expert in short-term therapy for depression and anxiety, as well as psychoanalytic therapy. It can be difficult to find the right therapist. I recommend an initial consultation where we can discuss your situation, goals, and preferences and assess whether it is a good fit. Please visit my website for further information about my practice.

Psychotherapy can be anywhere between a one or two session consultation to a treatment relationship spanning the course of several years. Short-term psychotherapy is usually about three months of weekly or biweekly meetings, and many people find they feel better and are able to sustain the improvements they have made after completing short-term therapy.

Ongoing therapy can help you forge better, more intimate relationships and to leave with a stronger sense of who you are, a greater openness to life experiences, increased confidence, and improved awareness of what you think and why. It can be incredibly helpful and meaningful to develop a relationship with a therapist over a longer period of time.

More Info About My Practice

Psychotherapy is a sustainable and scientifically documented treatment for a wide range of mental health and quality of life problems. It usually involves meeting with your therapist at least once weekly, but can be more or less frequent depending on your needs. People often expect their therapist to provide knowledge, information, and answers to life's problems, which of course we sometimes can and do. However, the most powerful and effective aspect of psychotherapy is not about the therapist giving information but rather about her facilitating a process in which the client or patient is able to feel more able to think or feel for themselves.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Eating Disorders: I am an expert in eating disorder treatment, and regularly consult with dietitians, medical doctors and psychiatrists. I also work closely with residential and hospital-based treatment centers to ensure that my patients are receiving the appropriate level of care.

International Relocation: It has become commonplace to relocate across the country and across the world. This can be simultaneously incredibly enriching and also challenging, and it can often come as a surprise just how much of an impact they can have on one's overall wellbeing. Psychotherapy can bolster the process of identity development, cultural adaptation, and help strengthen one's ability to navigate new social situations and find one's place in the exciting, complex, diverse milieu of the San Francisco Bay Area/ Silicon Valley.

Adolescents: The teenage years can be confusing and painful for teens and parents. Psychotherapy can help preserve parent-child relationships by providing support and creating a safe, confidential environment for teens to express themselves. I help parents get to know their teen and adjust to his or her evolving needs.

Children: I work closely with kids and parents to identify psychological factors that hinder development and cause emotional and behavioral difficulties. Addressing these obstacles can get your child back on track and bolster him or her against future problems. I provide off-site and school visits when appropriate.
